Legal Group

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 23 August 2026

Who we are

Legal Group is a marketing and referral service. We connect people who have separated with independent family law firms, and where relevant with litigation funding providers.

We are not a law firm. We do not give legal advice. Nothing on our website or in any conversation with our team is legal advice. Any advice you receive comes from the law firm you're introduced to, and your relationship is with them, not with us.

This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, who we give it to, and what you can do about it. We handle personal information in line with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

What we collect

When you fill in a form on our site, respond to one of our ads, or speak to our team, we may collect:

  • Your name, phone number and email address
  • Your postcode or general location
  • Your answers to our intake questions, which may include whether you have separated, whether children are involved, the rough value and type of assets in question, your expected timeframe, and how you'd prefer to fund legal fees
  • Notes taken by our team during a phone call
  • Recordings and written transcripts of phone calls (see below)
  • Any other information you choose to give us

We also collect some information automatically when you visit our website, such as your IP address, browser, device, the pages you visit, and how you arrived at our site. This comes through cookies and tracking tools, including the Meta (Facebook) pixel and Google Analytics.

Please don't send us documents or detailed information about your case. We only need enough to work out which firm is the right fit. Keep the detail for the lawyer.

Phone calls are recorded

We record and may transcribe incoming and outgoing phone calls for quality, training and record-keeping purposes.

You'll be told at the start of the call that it's being recorded. If you don't want to be recorded, tell us and we'll stop the recording or continue by email instead. Recordings and transcripts are stored securely and are only accessed by our team.

Why we collect it

  • To work out whether we can help you, and which of our partner firms suits your situation
  • To contact you by phone, SMS or email about your enquiry
  • To pass your details to a partner law firm, or to a litigation funding provider, so they can contact you
  • To book appointments and send you reminders and confirmations
  • To improve our service, train our team, and measure how our advertising is performing
  • To meet our legal obligations

Who we give it to

Partner law firms and funders. This is the main one. When you submit an enquiry, you are asking us to introduce you to a law firm. That means we will pass your name, contact details and your answers to our intake questions to the firm we match you with, and where relevant to a litigation funding provider. They will then contact you directly. Once they have your information, they handle it under their own privacy policy, not ours.

We are paid by the law firm when you attend an appointment with them. You are not charged by us.

Our service providers. We use third-party software to run our business — for phone and SMS, our customer database, email, appointment booking, transcription and AI-assisted call summaries, advertising platforms, and website hosting. These providers can access your information only to provide those services to us.

Anyone else you agree to, or where the law requires or allows it.

Some of these providers store or process information on servers outside Australia, including in the United States. By giving us your information you consent to it being handled overseas, and you understand that overseas recipients may not be subject to Australian privacy law.

We do not sell your personal information to unrelated third parties.

Marketing

If you contact us, we may send you phone calls, SMS or emails about your enquiry and about our services.

You can opt out at any time — reply STOP to any SMS, click unsubscribe in any email, or email us at privacy@legal-group.com.au. We'll action it promptly.

Cookies and advertising

Our website uses cookies and similar tracking. We advertise on Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google, and we use their tracking tools to measure results and to show ads to people who have visited our site.

You can turn cookies off in your browser settings, though parts of our site may not work properly if you do. You can also manage ad preferences directly with Meta and Google.

How we keep it safe

We store information in secured, access-controlled systems, and only our team and our service providers can get to it. We use passwords, access restrictions and encryption where appropriate.

No system is completely secure. If a data breach happens that is likely to cause you serious harm, we will notify you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as required.

How long we keep it

We keep your information for as long as we need it for the purposes above, and for as long as the law requires. When we no longer need it, we delete it or de-identify it.

Seeing and correcting your information

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and you can ask us to correct anything that's wrong. Email privacy@legal-group.com.au and we'll respond within a reasonable time, usually 30 days.

We may need to verify who you are first. In limited cases we may refuse access, and if we do we'll tell you why.

Complaints

If you think we've mishandled your personal information, email privacy@legal-group.com.au with the details. We'll investigate and get back to you, normally within 30 days.

If you're not happy with our response, you can take it to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner:

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always on this page, with the date it was last updated at the top.
